How will I know if solution focused brief therapy is for me?

  • if you want change and for things to get better, then this is for you.

What can I expect on my first session?

  • the first session is your first session.  There is no need for pre-talk, warm-ups, lengthy introductions, explanations, or analysis - we go straight into it.

Do I need to prepare for my first session?

  • No.  You might what to consider what your best hopes are from the session but, apart from that, you've got everything you need.  You are the expert in your own life!

How long does SFBT last?

  • SFBT is a short-term, focused treatment approach.  The length of treatment can vary but it continues until you, the client, feel you have achieved the change you want.  Generally, I would see clients for 3-6 sessions, which does make this very cost effective when compared with other therapeutic models.

 

How frequent are the sessions?

  • We would usually start with weekly or fortnightly sessions, but you decide, not me!  As treatment progresses, you may wish to space the sessions slightly further apart, it's up to you. Once you have finished a course of SFBT, it is not uncommon to return for occasional “booster” sessions to keep up your progress, or if you wish to address other issues.

Will my SFBT therapist be able to understand and appreciate my own unique background?

  • Research demonstrates that SFBT is an effective treatment regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation or social economic status.
